About MusiCompanion
Last updated: 12 October 2026
MusiCompanion is the everyday practice companion for musicians, from beginner students to professionals. It brings together in a single app everything the student needs to practise: tuning, keeping time, working on intonation, keeping track of practice and sending it to the teacher, and better understanding the music they play.
For the professional, it is a time-saving tool that brings together in one place historical pitches and temperaments, a tuner, help with intonation, information on composers and guidance on 17th- and 18th-century ornamentation, as well as a section dedicated to historical instruments.
Designed by concert performers and teachers, it gives a special place to early music: historical pitches and temperaments, a tool to determine the natural temperament of historical wind instruments, an intonation scan that prints the corrections needed note by note as a PDF, and the most suitable pitch for a concert programme.
What makes MusiCompanion different
- A tuner that speaks the language of early music: every pitch from 380 to 460 Hz and the historical temperaments (Vallotti, Kirnberger III, Werckmeister III, Bach-Kellner, Young, meantone…), with their reference key.
- My instruments and my temperaments: up to 15 instruments saved with their pitch and temperament, and up to 15 personal temperaments set note by note.
- The historical winds assistant: play a few notes, and the app determines the pitch and natural temperament of your historical wind instrument. Its intonation scan shows for each note the correction needed for the chosen temperament and pitch, on a staff and in a table you can print as PDF.
- Truly in-tune drones: a real recorded piano and an organ, retuned to the chosen pitch and temperament, short or sustained, to work on the intonation of intervals and on ear training.
- A practice log to share: practice-session stopwatch recorded automatically in the calendar, comments dictated by voice, audio recordings, and sending your work to your teacher by e-mail or WhatsApp.
- Sing in tune: a vocal range test, vocal warm-ups accompanied on the piano, 12 progressive sung solfège exercises in which the microphone tells you whether the note is in tune, a drone for working on intonation (major and minor scales, intervals), and “Sing a melody”: a new melody every time, to read, tap and sing in 6 steps, with pitch and rhythm correction.
- To understand what you play: a complete Solfège section (notes, rhythm, time signatures, intervals, keys, chords, cadences, figured bass) with tests at two levels, composers from the Renaissance to the 21st century, ornaments with a comparative table of names and performance by country, and a glossary of every musical term.
- For young and old: the home screen and the My practice page speak to children informally, and everyone can hide the pages they don’t need. Ad-free.
The app’s tools
Play
Tuner: automatic microphone, stretched octaves, attack ignored for plucked strings.
Metronome: time signatures from 1/1 to 12/8, click strength and pitch. Up to 30 saved tempos and time signatures, to find the speed of the pieces you are working on in a moment. With “Tap tempo”, you tap the tempo you want for a piece and the metronome finds the speed straight away.
Drones & Sounds: piano or organ, every note, several notes at once, tuned to the chosen concert pitch and temperament; a drone for working on intonation, and a large piano on tablet and computer.
My practice
Calendar & Send: calendar, weekly and monthly summaries, written or dictated comments, sending practice times, comments and recordings to the teacher by e-mail or WhatsApp.
My recordings: up to 15 recordings, to rename, keep and listen back to; a recording continues while you change pages.
Stopwatches: practice-session stopwatch (always visible at the bottom right of the menu, duration entered in the calendar) and piece stopwatch.
Learn
Solfège: theory explained simply, exercises and tests at two levels (reading, rhythms, time signatures, intervals by ear, keys, chords, cadences), the basics of harmony, and an index.
Rhythms / Keys: rhythmic cells from 2/4 to 12/8, played with the beat, and reading tests; note values (from the whole note to the sixteenth); intervals on a piano, with the semitones; keys and their key signatures (major and relative minor).
Sing in tune: vocal range test, vocal warm-ups accompanied on the piano, 12 progressive sung solfège exercises (the microphone tells you whether the note is in tune), intonation work with a drone and “Sing a melody”: a new tonal melody every time, to read, tap and sing in 6 steps, with pitch and rhythm correction.
Glossary: every musical term used in the app, from A to Z, with a link to the theory.
Instruments
My instruments: up to 15 instruments and presets, with their pitch and temperament.
Historical winds assistant: determine the pitch and natural temperament of your historical wind instrument; intonation scan: the correction needed for each note, for the chosen temperament and pitch, with a printable PDF (staff and table), to repeat for each temperament or pitch.
Concert programme: you enter the keys of the pieces in the concert, and the app recommends the most favourable temperament and tuning for the whole programme.
Explore
Composers: more than 850 composers from the Renaissance to the 21st century (teachers, pupils, positions held), with a timeline of the periods.
Ornaments: 17th- and 18th-century ornament tables with their original treatise, and a comparative table of names, signs and performance in France, Germany, Italy and England.
Settings
Language, account, backups, my temperaments, user profile (to hide the pages you don’t need), child or adult, and two buttons to suggest an improvement and rate the app. A searchable index helps you find every page.
The app is available in French, Italian, English and German. It works offline and can be installed on the home screen of your phone, tablet or computer. Your practice log and recordings stay on your device.
For parents
MusiCompanion is a tool to put in your child’s hands to encourage regular practice: they see their sessions add up day after day, record and listen to themselves, and can send their work to their teacher.
Indicate in Settings that the app is used by a child: the home screen and the My practice page then speak to them informally. You can also hide the pages they don’t need (choose the “I’m learning music” profile). The app is ad-free, and its practice log and recordings stay on the device.
An old phone, even without a SIM card or a plan, works very well: you only need a Wi-Fi connection when installing it.
With or without Internet
An Internet connection (Wi-Fi is enough) is needed only once, to open the app and install it on the home screen. It is then stored entirely on the device and works offline afterwards.
Without Internet, everything essential works: tuner, metronome, drones and sounds, Sing in tune, Solfège, composers, ornaments, glossary, my instruments, stopwatches, calendar, written comments, recordings (including downloading them) and backups. Once activated, the paid plan stays active offline.
An Internet connection is needed to:
- install the app and receive updates (they arrive at the next connection);
- sign in to your account, buy or manage a subscription;
- send your work by e-mail or WhatsApp (an e-mail prepared offline is sent at the next connection);
- dictate comments: on most phones, dictation goes through the Internet (without the Internet: type them on the keyboard);
- open the “Sources” links on the composer pages.
For a device that stays offline, saving a backup file (Settings › Backups) lets you transfer the work to another device, for example with a cable.
Compatible phones and tablets
- Android: Android 8 (released in August 2017) or newer, with an up-to-date Chrome browser (version 111 from March 2023 or later). Since Chrome 139 (August 2025), Chrome updates require Android 10 (released in September 2019) or later.
- iPhone and iPad: iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone SE (2nd generation) or newer, with iOS 16.2 (December 2022) or later.
- Processor and memory: a quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM are enough (most phones sold since 2018). On a slower device, the tuner may react a little more slowly.
- A working microphone (tuner, recordings) and a speaker or headphones (metronome, drones).
On an older device, the app may open, but some colours, the microphone or the sounds may not work properly.
