Controller
Société valaisanne de la Flûte – MusiCompanion, Valais, Switzerland. Contact: info@musicompanion.app. This policy is based on the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for users in the European Union, on the GDPR.
In brief
- No ads, no tracking, no data resale.
- The metronome and tuner work without an account and without sending any data.
- The sound from the microphone is analysed on your device for the tuner; it is neither recorded nor sent anywhere.
- Your practice log is saved on your device.
Data processed
- Settings and practice log (concert pitch, temperament, minutes and comments): stored solely in your device’s browser. You can export or delete them in Settings.
- Microphone: used only while the tuner is open, with your permission. The signal is analysed in real time on the device.
- Voice dictation (comments in “My progress”): uses the voice recognition built into your browser or phone. Depending on the device, the audio may be processed by the system provider (e.g. Apple or Google) in accordance with its own rules. Dictation only starts when you tap the microphone button.
- Account (free trial and MusiCompanion Complete): the email address is used to send the 6-digit sign-in code, to count the trial days and to send one email the day before the trial ends (a reminder and a request for feedback; it contains a link to stop receiving emails). Our server keeps the address together with the trial start date, the language, the list of signed-in devices (device type and date of last use, at most 3) and, where applicable, registration as a founding member; the sign-in code is deleted after 10 minutes. The address is deleted from the trial record three days after the trial ends; only an encrypted fingerprint remains, so that a trial is given only once. It stays on the list of founding members (until 31 March 2027) or guests for the people concerned. Your first name stays on your device. The address is never passed on to third parties. Service used: Netlify (Netlify, Inc., USA). The subscription status is read from Stripe.
- Feedback: the message sent with “Give feedback” (written or dictated) reaches us by email together with your address. For dictation, the text is recognised by your browser’s speech recognition service (Apple or Google). If the message is not in French, it is translated automatically by DeepL (DeepL SE, Germany). Your feedback is published anonymously on the website only if you have allowed it. Messages are grouped once a week, then deleted from our server.
- Payment: processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., Ireland, and Stripe group companies), which receives your name, e-mail address, billing address and payment details. We do not see or store your full card number.
- Hosting: the application is hosted by Netlify, which processes technical connection data (IP address, browser type) in order to display the site and protect it.
Purposes
To operate the app, manage accounts and subscriptions, collect payments, reply to your messages and comply with our legal obligations (accounting). We do not use your data for any other purposes.
International transfers
Netlify and certain companies within the Stripe group are based in the United States. These transfers are based on the safeguards provided for by law, in particular the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses recognised by Switzerland, or the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework where the service provider is certified under it.
Retention period
Account data is retained for as long as the account exists, and is then deleted on request or after two years of inactivity. Accounting documents relating to payments are retained for ten years, as required by Swiss law.
Children
For children, the account and subscription must be created or approved by a parent or legal guardian. We do not ask for the child’s age or any other information about the child.
Cookies
The app does not use advertising cookies or audience measurement tools. It uses the browser’s local storage for your settings, your practice log and, if you are a subscriber, your login session.
Your rights
You may request access to your data, its rectification or erasure, or object to its processing, by writing to info@musicompanion.app. You may also contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, within the European Union, your supervisory authority.
